Vlog: Driving as a Woman in Saudi!

This is a HISTORIC day! As a Bahraini woman, I have grown up my whole life a half an hour away from Saudi and have never been able to drive myself there, or able to go to business meetings when my male counterparts could (and often advanced because of it) is has always been a thorn. For many women, though, it was much more than that: activists are still in jail for protesting the ban, many women in the years prior to 2008 and smartphone technology were often cut off from the world, people with lower income, divorced women, students, and others, were often the hardest hit.

This move is more about helping the country’s economy than about it being able women’s rights, honestly, but that’s okay — because it proves what we have always known to be true: you will never achieve what is possible when chaining half your population up.

Women, I salute you. Let’s drive.
